Armitt Library and Museum. The Armitt Museum and Library in Ambleside town centre is a museum gem in the Lake District. Armitt Museum is an independent museum, library and library, founded by Mary Louisa Armitt in 1909 and devoted to preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of the Lake District.
